Parent comments:
Virtual school has made a lot of this more obvious as parents were able to listen to some of their students’ classes. Once back at school, the schools know they will regain full control of the kids.

I am working in Catholic high schools. Administration may not know or admit it’s going on, but some teachers are pushing CRT concepts.
__________
Kings Local District in Warren County is pushing critical race theory. Some of the high school classrooms have BLM flags and gay pride flags. A 10th grade English teacher told the students there is no USA flag in his classroom because that flag does not stand for everyone. The school board was made aware of this and has not done a thing about it. Required reading for two 12th grade English classes is Stamped, the “remix” of Ibram Kendi’s “Stamped from the Beginning.”
I was told, unequivocally, by the Kings Local School District (Warren County) superintendent ,that: the BLM flag supports students, is not representative of a specific organization (therefore does not violate school policy) and will remain hung in our classrooms.

This is a parent in Wilmington, N. Carolina who spoke out at her school board meeting:
“My name is XXX and I transplanted 6 years ago from the Washington, DC/ Baltimore area to get away from the cold weather.
I am a former public school teacher and mother of 5. My youngest is in the 5th grade. Up North I taught at a low performing school as well as one of the highest rated schools in our state.
I am now a Registered Dietitian/Clinical Nutritionist in private practice here in Wilmington. I love Wilmington and what I do.
I join with our respected Lt Governor, Mark Robinson, a man of color, to speak out against a social studies curriculum being proposed by the North Carolina Department of Education that seeks to rewrite our history in favor of pushed narratives. (They did pass this over the wishes of the conservatives on the board.)
These narratives include the historically inaccurate 1619 Project as well as Critical Race Theory which is an offshoot of Critical Theory, a Marxist movement.
Critical Race Theory is far from the traditional Civil Rights Movement which sought to provide equal opportunity and dignity without regard to race.
This destructive narrative is just the opposite of Martin Luther King’s dream, “of a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Critical Race promotes racism.
This ideology states that all of America and its institutions are deeply racist and therefore irredeemable and need to be torn down and dismantled.
This new curriculum is being sold to us with the seductive buzzwords of “Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” They sound good, but they are all a part of Critical Theory.
Equity is NOT Equality. Equality is giving everyone the same opportunity to succeed. Equity is much different.
Equity MANDATES Equality of outcome. That is a Marxist, socialist and communist ideology.
Truth should always be taught and we have horrible blemishes in our past. Slavery was abominable and evil.
Our founding principles were not evil, but as great American and former slave, Frederick Douglass believed, these principles were written with the ability to break these racial hierarchies. This has happened.
Critical race theory robs our children of what they need most—a sound education. While other countries are focusing and outpacing us in math, we should be teaching our children how to divide, not how to be divided.
This is not a right or left issue.
We, the concerned citizens of New Hanover County are asking you, as a Board to write a letter to the North Carolina Board of Education stating that we do NOT want Critical Race Theory, Equity, social justice or whatever the newest label is, to be taught in our schools.
If you allow this Marxist indoctrination to happen to our children, we will have no other choice to link your name and this Board with Marxism.
I can assure you that will not go over well for your re-election efforts.
No amount of Federal funding is worth the damage we will do to our children.
They deserve better than the racism and division promoted by Critical Race Theory.”

Re-writing language:
Reported by Mason Schools’ parents:
I do know a 3rd grade teacher in Mason has been told she is no longer allowed to call her students “boys and girls” anymore. She can say “friends”, “class”, etc.
A teacher in Mason had a student remove “ladies and gentlemen” to write “folks” for a non-binary, gender neutral audience for her writing paper.
Reported by a Loveland Schools’ parent:
Loveland teachers were told this same thing last year; not to call kids boys and girls.
